Benign prostatic hyperplasia

The prostate's inner zone enlarges with age and squeezes the urethra running through it. The bladder works harder to empty, and in the end may fail.

ICD-10 N40On the prostate and bladder3 stages

Installation

bunx shadcn@4.22.1 add @organui/benign-prostatic-hyperplasia

This adds benign-prostatic-hyperplasia.tsx, the disease's data and component, to your components directory. It is built on the disease viewer and reuses the models of the prostate and bladder, which install with it.

View registry item JSON

Usage

import { BenignProstaticHyperplasia } from "@/components/benign-prostatic-hyperplasia"

export function BenignProstaticHyperplasiaDemo() {
  return <BenignProstaticHyperplasia />
}

Every structure is a finding: affected structures are amber and spared ones muted. Select one, in 3D or in the panel, to read what the disease does there.

Course

Set stage or defaultStage to one of these. Each stage changes which structures are affected and the investigations to expect.

  1. Symptoms "symptoms"

    Lower urinary tract symptoms that bother the patient. Lifestyle changes, then an alpha blocker, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor or both.

    Affects 3 structures of the prostate and 3 structures of the bladder.

  2. Chronic retention "chronic-retention"

    The bladder never empties fully. It stretches painlessly, leaks by overflow, and the pressure inside it backs up to the kidneys.

    Affects 3 structures of the prostate and 5 structures of the bladder.

  3. Acute retention "acute-retention"

    Suddenly unable to pass urine, with a painful, full bladder. Constipation, anticholinergics or alcohol often trigger it; a catheter brings instant relief.

    Affects 3 structures of the prostate and 3 structures of the bladder.

Scales

Set scale or defaultScale to show the disease on another model. Each has its own structure IDs, so the viewer clears the selection when the scale changes.

  • "prostate": the prostate, 13 structures.
  • "bladder": the bladder, 12 structures.

Without Panel

Hide the panel to place the model in your own layout, and choose the scale and stage with props.

Controlled

Drive the stage, scale and selection from your own state, such as a patient's timeline.
